Description:

The Education Committee will have jurisdiction over all matters related to measures aimed at guiding, setting objectives for, and determining the methods of the public education system; the regulation, supervision, and accreditation of educational services of private schools and institutions; vocational education, guidance, and rehabilitation; the dissemination of education and culture; services, scholarships, and aid to students; the regulation, accreditation, and creation of conditions that inspire and improve teachers, and the development of supplementary services to instruction for its greater effectiveness; the direction, administration, research, and university education, including facilities and equipment; and non-profit organizations, including those that manage knowledge, such as universities and institutions that enable contributions from the private sector.
The consideration of all matters and legislative measures related to educational programs and services for the special education population and those with functional diversity. It will ensure the implementation of public policy that guarantees the provision of services, specialized education, therapies, vocational rehabilitation, and all efforts so that this population can move towards an independent life.
The Committee will also have jurisdiction over all matters related to the conservation and promotion of cultural values, the arts, and sciences; the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture and the dissemination of culture and the preservation of historical places and areas; the State Historic Preservation Office; the Luis A. Ferré Fine Arts Center, the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico, the School of Visual Arts, the Museum of Art of Puerto Rico and the Museum of Contemporary Art and the fine arts; the promotion of the film and audiovisual industry as an artistic and cultural reference; the Corporation of Puerto Rico for Public Broadcasting (WIPR) and the Corporation for the Development of Arts, Sciences and Cinematographic Industry of Puerto Rico, as entities promoting the arts and culture; artistic and cultural exchange between Puerto Rico and the rest of the United States and the world; public art and artistic and cultural events and activities; the General Archive of Puerto Rico as a cultural reference; any other matter related to art and culture in general; and over any matter delegated to it by the House of Representatives of Puerto Rico or its Speaker.
