Municipal Affairs

Description:

The Municipal Affairs Committee shall have primary jurisdiction to intervene in the development of government policy regarding the institution of the municipality, the first point of contact between the individual and the Government; the Municipal Code, along with the services provided by the Office of Municipal Management attached to the Office of Management and Budget, the Municipal Revenue Collection Center (CRIM), and other related instrumentalities that provide services to the municipalities; the financing of municipal services and public works; the definition and protection of the rights of municipal public employees; the operational interrelationship between the Municipal Government and government agencies, as well as between the municipal governments themselves, including matters related to consortia; and the promotion and development of greater municipal autonomy to promptly address issues affecting the municipalities.
Likewise, this Committee shall be responsible for addressing all matters related to facilitating, through legislation and research, the processes of decentralization and regionalization of government services, based on the principle of achieving greater municipal autonomy and an improved quality of services for the citizens.
