The Tourism Commission shall have jurisdiction over all matters related to the promotion and development of the tourism industry as an essential part of Puerto Rico’s economic growth; research and studies that allow for the definition, implementation, direction, and focus of government policy on tourism; the management, operation, and maintenance of hotels, inns, and other tourist facilities; tourist services and attractions; hotel schools and the labor sector of the tourism industry; gambling, cruises, coastal and port areas, gastronomic, medical, luxury, and sports tourism, ecotourism, and group tourism; government and private entities related to tourism; and the strengthening and expansion of the tourism industry in general.
Likewise, it shall have jurisdiction over all matters related to measures aimed at the promotion, organization, supervision, inspection, reorganization, and dissolution of cooperatives; the cooperative movement in its various dimensions, such as consumption, savings, credit, financing, production, housing, and any other nature, but within the cooperative philosophy, including studies and evaluations of problems and situations that affect in one way or another the stability, development, progress, and well-being of the cooperative movement; and over any matter delegated to it by the House of Representatives of Puerto Rico or its President.
