Biography
Born on September 5, 1955, in Bayamón, he grew up with his four siblings in a family environment of values and principles.
He completed his primary education at Parcelas Van Scoy Elementary School and his intermediate studies at María Vázquez de Umpierre School. He pursued higher education at Dr. Agustín Stahl School, located in downtown Bayamón.
“Junior,” as Representative Luis Pérez Ortiz is affectionately called, began working without completely leaving his studies behind. Whenever he had the opportunity, he took short courses in Business Administration. In 1978, he got married and has three children.
The Representative worked for more than 12 years in several private companies, including Belh Lindsey, Almacenes Gonzalo Rivera e Hijos, and Holsum Bakers of Puerto Rico.
In 1985, he began his duties in the Bayamón Municipal Administration as a Civil Defense Plans Officer. Later, he was promoted to the position of Director of the Tomás Kuilan Public Transportation Terminal in Bayamón.
In September 1987, he took full charge of the Municipal Civil Defense. On July 15, 1997, the former mayor of Bayamón, Ramón Luis Rivera, appointed him Director of the City’s Public Safety Department.
In 1998, after serving in that administration, he aspired to and successfully won the seat of Representative to the House for District 7 of Bayamón.
Since then, he has been re-elected as Representative for District 7 of Bayamón.
