Biography
Omayra Milagros Martínez Vázquez was born on November 17, 1977, in the municipality of Mayagüez and grew up between the municipalities of Sabana Grande and Maricao. Thanks to her education in the public school system, she has stood out for her analytical ability and problem-solving skills.
Her love for science and the environment led her to study a Bachelor of Science with a concentration in Biology at the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico, San Germán Campus, where she graduated with Cum Laude honors. This same dedication allowed her to earn a Master’s degree in Public Administration with a concentration in Criminal Justice from the Ana G. Méndez University System, where she received the highest academic distinction, Summa Cum Laude.
Professionally, Martínez Vázquez has served in recent years as Regional Supervisor for the Aguadilla Region in the Housing Choice Voucher Program, better known as Section 8. Additionally, she has extensive experience in the private sector, having worked for over 10 years in the area of financial institutions, such as banks and credit unions.
Her work for the well-being of communities in the southwest area has stood out throughout her public service career, where she served as Municipal Legislator for the Municipality of Sabana Grande from 2013 to 2024.
On November 5, 2024, she was elected as Representative for District Number 21, which includes the municipalities of Guánica, Las Marías, Lajas, Maricao, Sabana Grande, and Yauco. She was appointed to chair the Housing and Urban Development Commission.
